A NATION IN NO MOOD FOR EXCUSES.

Just yesterday, I read a piece online where former Akwa Ibom State Governor, God'swill Akpabio tried to defend the ruling APC about their role in the Nation's turbulent economy.
Well, I don't know how true the report is but if it's true, then, I'm most surprised. Given that his party, the PDP is the main opposition political party in the country, I find it rather strange that he is making excuses for the Government's inability to steady the course of the economy .
It's far too easy for us to make excuses for the Government because they are new to power and things were not any better when they came in.
But the question that comes to my mind is whether it's enough excuse that countries all over the world are experiencing different phases of economic recessions.
Truth be told, most countries of the world are experiencing very harsh economic realities but respectfully, that's not enough reason for us to suffer same.
And the last thing Nigeria needs now is for anybody to try to exempt the Government from blame.
We agree that the new administration came in at a difficult time, and we don't blame them for inheriting a broken economy from the previous Government; the truth is what we blame the Buhari administration for its inability to so far steady the ship of the economy.
So, what's my point exactly?
I feel we've gone past the stage where Government is absolved of blame for the nation's economic woes; we can't continue to understand and forgive Government for leading us to terrible times!
The stage we are at, now is the stage of the "active citizen ".
It's a stage where we must hold the Government responsible for everything that goes wrong with the country, and not make excuses for them.
SO, WHAT IS MY GROUSE WITH AKPABIO'S EXCUSE?
It's simple; he tried to take us back to the years when we kowtowed at the feet of our leaders and defended them for treating us like shit.
We know that with his party in power, Nigerians developed a frustrating proclivity to make excuses for the Government's inadequacies.
The consequences of always waiving the Government's errors have barely started to manifest in our lives.
We excused irresponsibility and we got soft leaders who were always certain that the people would Understand, and as such, took us for a ride.
Mr Akpabio, My point is this; we refuse to make excuses for the Government because we are where we are today simply because we understood, exempted and forgave your cronies and political party.(of course, you know we are in a bad place).
The truth is that if we excuse Government for a weak economy, we will one day, excuse Government for a resurgence in official corruption, and guess what;
The era where we exempted, forgave and understood the Government actually effluxed with your Party!
This is a new Nigeria;
A Nigeria where the Government is responsible and also held responsible for the nation's woes and travails.
It's an era where the citizens now keep Government on her toes, and when the Government fails to live up to her promises, they will be booted out .
And it shows we've made progress as a people.
So, Sir, please, don't bring back the evil days!

  1. Exactly what I've been thinking of. Why blame the past? It's no news that the past administration left a broken Nigeria for the current administration. That is why we voted the past admin. out and voted APC in to work and not to keep on blaming the past admin.which they begged us to CHANGE.
