Joy for Klopp as Mou's Misery continues: Jurgen Klopp finally got a long overdue first Premier League victory in the early kick off match today between Liverpool and Chelsea as Liverpool humbled Chelsea by a 3-1 victory. Chelsea took the lead in the fourth minute of the match courtesy of a header from Ramires who recently signed a new four year contract for Chelsea. However, Liverpool turned the table courtesy of two exquisitely taken goals from Coutinho and a late third goal from in form striker, Christian Benteke. In other matches, Arsenal continued their winning streak with a routine Three-nil victory over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium courtesy of goals from Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Jao Campbell. Manchester United played out an uninspiring goaless draw with Crystal Palace while Watford ended West Ham United's amazing run with a two-nil victory courtesy of a brace from red hot Nigerian Striker, Odion Ighalo. Good News In The Air for Ebonyi Workers If comments from the Ebonyi State Governor, Engineer Dave Umahi are anything to go by, Civil Servants in the State are in for a jolly good ride as the State Governor has promised that workers in the state are to receive a 13th month bonus salary. According to the Governor, the essence of this innovation is to assist civil servants in view of the present economic hardship in the State, and that it will continue until the economy improves. The Governor also bemoaned the low allocation the state receives from the federation account and as such, urged Local Government Chairmen to increase efforts towards improving the State's Internally Generated Revenue.

CBN Insists; No Naira Devaluation For the umpteenth time, the Central Bank of Nigeria has rejected persistent calls from numerous financial analysts such as Emir Sanusi Lamido to devalue the Naira. The latest refusal came on Friday, a day after Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo equally gave similar commitment. Speaking with Newsmen, the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele stated thus; “ There has been a lot of talk on whether or not we want to depreciate our currency again. “The truth is that we had adjusted the currency by depreciating it from N155 to N197 in February this year. “There is no intention to depreciate or adjust the currency any longer,” he said. According to the nation's number one banker, the Bank's priority at the moment is to boost the foreign exchange market to make it viable. Arsenal Stutter as Bayern overcome Wolfsburg: Arsenal's very exciting run of form came to a sad end this evening as they lost three-nil to second tier opposition, Sheffield Wednesday. In the match played at the Hillsbrough Stadium, Sheffield, a second string Arsenal side bowed to Sheffield courtesy of goals from R. Wallace,Lucas Jao and S. Hutchinson. Arsenal's night was made more miserable as they lost both Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Theo Walcott to various degrees of injury. In Germany, Bayern Munich continued with their hot streak of fun as they brought Wolfsburg down to earth in a DFB-Pokal match courtesy of a Three-One victory. A brace from Thomas Muller and a goal from Douglas Costa helped sink Wolfsburg who got a consolation via Andre Schurrle's 90th minute goal. Meanwhile, a 67th minute strike from Mauro Icardi helped place Roberto Mancini's Inter Milan at the summit of the Italian Serie A

Ajimobi, Bagudu live to fight another day: Unlike some of their less fortunate co travelers in their sojourn  as Chief Executives of States, Oyo State Governor, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, both of the ruling All Progressives Congress have had their elections upheld by the Election Petition Tribunals in their respective states. In Oyo, the state election Petition tribunal ruled that the petitioner, Senator Rasheed Ladoja of the Accord Party failed to substantiate his claims that the election that brought the respondent into power was marred by fraud. Also, in Kebbi, the petition brought by the candidate of the PDP in the April, 11 polls was equally dismissed. However, it remains to be seen what next steps the petitioners in both cases would take but it is expected that the option of appealing to a higher court will be utilized by both parties.

The Nigerian Judiciary; A problem of Perception: So, early this morning, I watched as Solomon Edoja, the Political Adviser of the APC campaign organization in Delta State expectedly castigated the judgment of the Delta State Election Petition Tribunal on Channels Television flagship programme, 'Sunrise Daily'. These days, the Judiciary has become the most available culprit when politicians make excuses for their failures and inability to sell themselves. Everybody who loses a matter in court will always make one claim or the other, undermining the impartiality of the judiciary. This very disturbing trend appeared to have risen to hitherto unattained heights especially with the judgements of the respective election petition Tribunals in Akwa-Ibom and Rivers State with the usual suspect, Ayo Fayose, criticizing the decision of the courts in these two states, whilst clearly stating that the President is 'influencing' the decision of the courts. Next to criticize wa

Donald Trump Is not Backing down on his Anti African Stand: American Republican Party Presidential trailblazer, business mogul and politician, Donald Trump has in another of his infamous speeches described some Africans as lazy fools who are only good at lovemaking, stealing and eating. He said this as part of his continued quest to deport Africans especially Kenyans if elected President. He said "African Americans are Lazy. The best they can do is gallivanting around ghettos, lamenting how they are discriminated. These are people America does not need. These are enemies of progress...In my opinion, most African countries ought to be recolonized again for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and Self Government" It would appear as though Donald Trump's stance merely strives to appeal to the emotions of the largely white Republicans ahead of the Republican Party Primaries. Mr Trump is a front runner in the race for the republican ticket and

The Curious Case of Kogi Baring any last minute hitches, the people of Kogi State, North-Central Nigeria would go to the polls. The choice before them can at best be described as a dilemma because they would have to choose between re electing an allegedly nonperforming incumbent Governor Idris Wada and another allegedly highly corrupt Former Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu whose corruption case is still very much on. Like Nigerian Comedians would put it, Kogi People are in between the devil and the deep blue sea. This is another classic example of society's fallen moral standards; the essence of elections for the electorates is to elect credible leaders capable of performing and on the other hand, to boot out the nonperforming leader. To say the least, for the people of Kogi State, this all important essence of elections is lost as they prepare for their gubernatorial elections in a few weeks from now because they are left with the choice of continuing with a 'no

Our Society's Unhealthy obsession with age: So, a few weeks back, I was arguing over a table of beer (I don't drink beer sha) with some random, rough looking guy whom I had heard about his uncommon sycophancy and butt licking attitude about the popularity of a struggling politician from my village. In the course of our argument, I kept debunking his unfounded claims until things came to a head when he asked me to shut up because according to him, I wasn't even born by 1996 (which is not true though). That ultra defensive approach got me wondering why our society places so much premium on age above common sense. Nobody cares how sound your argument or suggestion is because according to them, 'you are still a child and therefore, cannot understand how things work'. Seriously, our proclivity for associating old age with wisdom is unhealthy and harmful. Granted, an older person may be more experienced  than the younger person as a result of his number

CHELSEA continue anonymous start to season as Jamie Vardy is first to reach double figures in the English Premier League Goal Chart: In the English Premier League matches played earlier today, Jose Mourinho's Chelsea team continued their poor run of form as they lost 2-1 to their less illustrious neighbors, West Ham United. West Ham went ahead with Mauro Zarate's 17th minute screamer. Chelsea evened things with a Gary Cahil header, 11 minutes into the Second Half. However, it was meant to be West Ham's day as Injury prone striker, Andy Carroll headed home in the 77th minute. In other matches, Jamie Vardy scored his 10th goal of the season as Leicester City beat Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace One-nil. It was an Ayew family show as Jordan Ayew and Dede Ayew scored respectively for Aston Villa and Swansea City as Swansea beat Aston Villa 2-1 at the Villa park. Watford beat Stoke City 2- nil at the Britannia Stadium. In the ongoing match between Arsenal a

Still on the Rivers Election Petition Tribunal Ruling; The APC reacts; Reaction from the APC: Still reeling from the decision of the Rivers State Election Petition tribunal to annul the election that threw up Nyesom Wike, the All Progressives Congress has described the decision of the tribunal as bad news for hooliganism. According to Lai Mohammed,  ”What has come across from this judgement is that there is no shortcut to free, fair and credible elections. This is part of the wind of change that is blowing across the land and touching all arms of government under the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. ”Elections are about the expression of the will of the people, and they must always be free to express themselves, irrespective of what some desperate politicians may feel,” it said. APC said politicians, especially those seeking or occupying elective office, must realize that they can only derive their legitimacy from the people, and that unless they respect the

Any Surprises? Rivers State Election Tribunal annuls the election of Ezenwo Nyesom Wike I always had this super confidence that Nyesom Wike's pact with Rivers people wouldn't last. I mean, the signs were always there; very obvious!; audible to the deaf and visible to the blind that the April 11 Governorship elections in Rivers State would be annulled. My reason was very simple; those killings in Rivers were highly unnecessary and careless because like I told my Ogoni Friend, Lebari, that in a contest devoid of irregularities, Nyesom Wike would still win because all over the South South, the party to beat as at the time of the April guber polls was the PDP. So, with the popularity of his party, I still find it difficult to understand the reasoning behind all those extremely disgusting killings and spate of violence purportedly perpetuated against the supporters of the then ruling APC in Rivers State. I can only say that for those headless bodies, those hacked down in t

Apparently The Rivers state governorship election ‎petition tribunal sitting in Abuja has nullified the election of Nyesom Wike as governor of the state. The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh governorship election in the state. This is coming a few days after the Akwa Ibom State election petition tribunal cancelled elections in 18 out of 31 Local Government Areas in the state. This latest development appears to confirm hitherto held views by many individuals that the elections in Rivers was marred by a lot of irregularities. On the other hand, the opposition All Progressives Congress  says it has welcomed the judgement of the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. In a statement signed by the Party Chairman in the State, Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya,  “We have been vindicated in our persistent claim that the election in Rivers State was a sham and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) erred in

On a scale of 1 to 10, 8 of the persons who voted President Muhammadu Buhari into office did so on the promise of a renewed fight against corruption. 4 months on, it is fair to say that at least an era of impunity that has virtually characterized Nigeria since independence has come to a hiatus. However, the question many of us ask is 'will those who made away with our common wealth in times past just go scot free o n the basis of repentance'? GOD FORBID! Personally, I feel that the Government must show the will to crush these ambassadors of poverty and it starts with a strong anti corruption agency... Yep, we used to have one or even two but the EFCC we have now is a shadow of its old self. The President must restructure the EFCC and that has to start by a change of leadership. Seriously, I wonder what Ibrahim Lamorde is still doing there. So, unless the President is willing to make these visible structural adjustments, we will never be satisfied because really, we
