Imperfect Amerika!

It's America.
The Most Powerful Nation in the modern world!
Tomorrow, her people will decide who Governs her.
Because of their strength and influence, whatever concerns them has it's own direct or indirect consequences on us!
So, as Nigerians, it is not out of place for us to be concerned about who becomes the American President.
The race is between two very opposite candidates: Hilary Clinton, the Democratic Party nominee and Donald J Trump, the nominee of The Republican Party.
Those who have keenly followed American Politics since the new millennium will hardly be surprised that Hilary Clinton is in the race: this is because of her antecedents: In 2000, she won election to the United States of America Senate, thereby becoming the first former First Lady to occupy such a position: in 2008, she gallantly challenged Barack Obama for the ticket of the Democratic Party, albeit losing: between 2009 and 2012, she served as the United States Secretary of State.
So, from all indications, her candidature is hardly a surprise because she obviously looks and fits the part despite her many failings.
On the other hand, there is a tough talking Donald Trump who is the flag bearer of the Republican Party who has become a symbol for out of the blues candidacy.
His entry into the race was most unexpected and when he started, few saw him as someone who could stand the test of time.
Without a doubt, Donald Trump epitomized the direct opposite of who and what a President should be.
He was and is still very careless in his speeches and all through his campaign, he has successfully stroked racial tensions as well as hatred and condemnation for anybody who has a different opinion from him.
In one of his earliest speeches, he condemned Mexicans in America, indirectly calling them rapists, drug dealers and criminals.
At other times, he has irked immigrants and threatened them with deportation as soon as he becomes President.
Records of his chauvinism and disrespect for women in times past are all too common.
Yet, in all of these, he remains very popular!
Now, this is the frightening part: that a man who has desecrated virtually all the values and virtues that the American people claim to believe and uphold is still very much in the race with a more than proportionate chance of victory is a huge indictment on the American people and more than anything, it exposes the masked hypocrisy of the Americans!
Hilary Clinton is far from perfect but the emergence of Donald Trump as the only serious challenger to her ambition has clearly robbed the Americans of the opportunity to choose a President they can be proud of.
Whether he wins or not, the fact that he came this far even after showing great disregard for People of other faiths and skin colour or heritage as well as showing great disregard for war veterans like John McCain calls for grave concerns and above all, exposes the double standards of a huge number of American Citizens.
I am not an American citizen and I don't wish to be one but the mere fact that Donald Trump was allowed to get to this point in the race is enough for them to evaluate their so called virtues and values.

  1. Well , an average "white" American thinks like Trump and believes in his views too.
However, "average" is no quantum for REASONABLENESS.

  2. Inasmuch as I hope Hilary wins, the fact that Trump went this far is because he undoubtedly speaks the silent mindset of many Americans which they fear to echo out. However, that mindset is silent because the US doesn't want to lose its leadership place in the world. That is perhaps one reason why Trump will not win.
    Nicely articulated thoughts.
