The Other Room: The Other Side To It

Yesterday, the President was at his witless and tactless worst.
This time, not in Daura but in faraway Germany where in the company of perhaps, the most powerful woman in the world, he stated that his wife, Aisha belongs to "the kitchen and the other room" in response to a question from a journalist on his views about his wife's exclusive interview to The BBC Hausa Service where she implied that the Buhari administration had been hijacked by some anti progressive forces and that she might not campaign for her husband in the event that he decides to seek reelection in 2019.
Overtime, most of the President's comments have been unPresidential which might be a good thing considering that his comments affirm his sincerity but on the other hand, his sincere and often unguided comments expose him to incessant attacks by mischief makers(not necessarily well meaning members of the opposition).
Needless to say, the President's remarks yesterday have thrown up emergency feminists including "shameless" people like Femi Fani Kayode(who once boasted about his affairs with Igbo Women).
According to them, the President's comments have confirmed their earlier suspicions that he is a misogynist and chauvinist who only believes that the Woman's best place is behind the scenes.
Well, I've not come to defend the President because really, whichever way you look at it, there could have been a better response to the question. He could have used the famous "no comment" or said plainly that it's a talk between him and his wife and that it's not for the press to know.
And quite frankly, I feel the President meant no harm given the way he was grinning when he made the comment: he was most likely saying that his wife is a part of him and as such, it was a matter between them both.
For me, he was joking: even if he is a misogynist and chauvinist as he has been branded by emergency feminists like FFK, he couldn't have been so dumb to make it known on a global stage.
However, the President has to deal with having his words misunderstood and misconstrued and that is by becoming more cautious about his choice of words and jokes.
So, there are actually two sides to the "other room": if you take it literally, you wouldn't be at fault because the President exposed himself to such misunderstanding but it would be wiser to look at the comment with the intent of understanding the exact intention of the maker, and quite frankly, the President NEVER meant to undermine the essence of the women folk.

  1. Clint to the rescue... Buhari should employ you as his spokesman o. Anyway tho I agree with you. He wouldn't have been so bold if he meant it. But it was a real poor play at a joke.

  2. I am of this view too.

So Chris and I were at the market today, and we kinda found ourselves talking to three ladies. The issue of MY WIFE IS FOR THE OTHER ROOM came up and when I said I FEEL HE DID NOT MEAN THAT, the ladies nearly swallowed me...

    love this blood.

    1. Tnx boss!
      I blame him tho...
He's very careless when he talks especially outside the country.

  3. Well, I think we shouldn't criticize those who citizen Buhari for his comments. A man in his position shouldn't joke like that. However, like you've said, he may not have meant it literally considering his facial expressions while speaking. Those who have no moral right should not join the bandwagon of critics.

    1. Yeah!
I don't even blame someone as shameless as FFK because this time, the President was just too careless.
However, it's hard to understand why people don't appreciate the joke, albeit tasteless in the comment
