NEW BEGINNINGS

“Ronke!!!” he screamed with all his might, the room vibrating to the thundering of his voice. His hands were sweaty and juddering, with his chest making fast-paced rhythmic movements as if dancing to a tone. Was he going to strangle her, or should he just send her packing? – Vile thoughts crept into his mind.
Ronke, still petrified on the bed had beads of sweat trickling down her neck and was naked save for the bed sheet she pulled over her chest which still gave a perfect view of her underlying cleavage. Her hair was ruffled as though she had been in a fight and her lips were quivering in obvious fear.

“Dabor, am so sorry”, she whimpered, hot tears streaming down her face. Her lover, their gate man had long stolen his way through and out of the house. That was obviously his last day on the job.
Having an obvious look of disappointment on his face, Dabor walked out of the room into the sitting room and turned on the television.  He wanted to engross himself in his favourite soap opera, just to forget what he had just witnessed.
Having mustered enough courage and stamina to dress up, Ronke packed up all her belongings and was about taking the first luggage out when Dabor grabbed her hands. She was still trembling and crying. “our marriage is for better or worse” he whispered, “we’ve seen better and this is one of the worse, can we begin a new chapter of better?” he continued. Having a mixed feeling of joy and bewilderment, she managed a smile and whimpered again… “Dabor, am so…” “cmon, am starving, anything for me to eat?” he cut her in the middle, hugged her and said “I LOVE YOU RONKE, and cheers to our NEW BEGINNING”.

And that's what happens to us most times as believers:We sometimes err and stray, but it does not change the TRUTH that we have an ever loving father who catches us anytime we fall. At those times we fall, all He asks is that we come back to Him. His arms are always open wide to receive us.

It does not matter what you’re doing now or what you’ve done in the past, all it takes is a decision in the right direction. He loves you more than you know or can even imagine. And according to Isaiah 43:19, He’s the only one that can give us a new beginning. And the wonderful thing is… he is more than willing to… all you have to do is ask Him for it.

Nigeria at 56: are we cursed or are we the cause?

Apologies to Mr Peter Obi for using this catchy but thought provoking phrase that he used the very first time he contested for the Governorship of Anambra State. Apparently, that question he asked over ten years ago still hangs over not just his Anambra State but Nigeria as a whole. On a Night like this, 56 years ago, there was probably a sickening nostalgia all over the then British Colony which would later become the Country, Nigeria about the endless possibilities that accompany Independence, especially in a Country that is as endowed as ours. AHEAD OF SATURDAY: WHO DID WE OFFEND?

Recently, I saw an op-Ed o n Bloomberg which potrayed Nigeria's 2019 Presidential election as between a former dictator and an alleged kleptocrat. At first, I considered the insinuation offensive but deep down, I knew that was the perfect description of the two gladiators in this weekend's presidential polls; my grouse was actually with the fact that even foreigners know how bad our shit smells. While he was campaigning for the first time as the Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, the vice presidential candidate of Nigeria's main opposition party in Saturday's poll kept asking if Anambra was cursed or if Anambra people were the cause. Today, I can't resist the urge to ask whether Nigeria is cursed with totally irresponsible leadership or if we are the causes of the failure in leadership.
